so along with the potion bottles i made spell books to complete the story. i've pinned a bunch of ideas & read a bunch of tutorials on the subject...and here i'm sharing the techniques i used.
i had these books in my stash from thrifting | garage sales | flea markets | etc.
i used them often in my consigning days & they are super handy for crafty projects like this.
i gave them one quick coat of annie sloan chalk paint in graphite.
i only applied one coat of paint since i didn't want it totally perfect for more of an aged looked but also went around a 2nd time dabbing the sides of the covers and the page edges.
i then stamped them with varied fonts (i have a big stash of stamps from my scrapbooking business days) on the spine, using acrylic craft paint.
whenever you stamp on a project you should test it out on a scrap piece of paper first. always! this helps with placement & spacing.
viola! i have a book of spells, potions, poisons & curses.
for the main spell book i used these free printables for the open pages from marie @ the g*rated blog.
i found where the book opened naturally towards the center & mod podged the pages there where it would be displayed open.
i added paint around the edges and curled the corners. it helps to mist the pages a bit to mold them.
you can age it as much or as little as you would like, depending on the "look" you're going for.
of course i wanted it all grungy like it had been around for centuries.
i also added a ribbon down the middle of the pages, holding the spot for the perfect spell recipes.
i think i'm done crafting for halloween this year.
believe it or not i have quite the list left of things i would like to tackle next year.
master & miss Ms costumes are almost finalized so i'm pretty much ready for all hollow's eve.
happy haunting !
